For the Canada Day long weekend, Mark and I headed up to the lake to spend the weekend with his family. His parents are missionaries and just got back from a 6 month stint in Nigeria so we were happy to have them home!
We stayed home on Saturday and ran errands/got stuff to bring to the lake and just chilled. We hadn’t had a non-crazy day since before I left for Italy so Saturday was for that. I just laid on my deck in the 45 degree (celcius, with humidity) weather to get a tan and relax.
For lunch I made green pea rotini + bbq’d some chicken + cucumber + marinara + pesto (added after) then I did a semi-intense workout that had my butt, legs and abs sore for 3 days after.
Later we had some drinks on the deck and made an easy naan pizza + salad dinner. If you’re wondering, the black stuff is truffle paste brought back from Italy. To die for. Especially good in a baked potato with butter and salt.
Sunday morning I got up and made cookies, showered, ate some toast and headed out to pick up Mark’s sister and drive to the lake! It was about 2.5 hours away which wasn’t too bad and by the time we got there, we were ready for lunch.
I made a make-shift cheeseplatter since the stores had been wiped out of most of the things I wanted by the time we got there on Saturday and Mark’s mom cut up lots of salad stuff + fruit. I went back for more cheese, crackers and fruit.
Then we spent the rest of the day outside. Mark and I braved the ice cold lake for about a half hour since it was terribly hot outside and then spent the rest of the day in muskoka chairs. The best way to spend a long weekend!
Wine that was brought back from Italy, peach ciderx2 (brickworks peach for anyone in Ontario!) and lots and lots of sun. Eventually we went inside, I realized I’d had too much sun and went to lay down in the air conditioning and pound water until dinner. We had burgers + corn + tomatoes + sausages. I took zero pictures because I was tired lol. We stayed up until 11ish then called it quits.
In the morning we had more fruit, cheese, greek yogurt and coffeeeeeeee. I also grabbed some crackers because I love crackers. We spent more time outside and then went to visit Mark’s granpda for a little while. He turns 100 this September and he’s just so spunky even at 99, I’m amazed.
Lunch was more fruit, cheese + crackers 🙂 Plus more salad, leftover chicken + sausages and chips + salsa. Went back for more fruit, cheese, crackers and salad…. and then more chips :). Oh and baked beans. So gooood.
We spent more time outside, I took a nap for an hour and then we headed home!
Before we went home we had to go pick up our new cat, Nessie from my cousin. So excited. She’s the sweetest. Gives ‘face boops’ constantly. Don’t mind the crappy lighting + picture quality…
She has a very strong need to cuddle 24/7, sleep on your head and would very much like to get in the shower with you. We don’t let that last one happen. We love her.
We got home around 7:15ish, I grabbed leftovers of salmon, naan pizza and salad with blue cheese from the fridge and had them + some chocolate, watched Netflix and went to bed at 10:30.
Hope you all had a great weekend!
