For those of you in the States (since 90% of my readers are in the US), in Canada we had a long weekend which, for us, meant a weekend away! Except it wasn’t together.
Mark had a weekend bachelor party in a cabin on the lake and I flew to Orlando, Florida with my sister for a quick 3 days at Epcot’s Flower and Garden Festival (food + drinks around the world), Animal Kingdom for their safari and a bunch of shopping/time by the pool. HOWEVER that didn’t happen…
Friday afternoon after I finished up work with a couple of clients, my sister and I headed to Buffalo for the night. We had a 6am flight the next morning so we decided to make the drive there the night before and stay in a hotel so we weren’t up at the butt crack of dawn to catch the flight. We picked up some snacks, grabbed dinner and chilled in the hotel for the rest of the night.
Panera’s southwest chili lime ranch chicken salad + an apple + 12 free mini chocolate chipper cookies! We saved the cookies for the flight/rest of the weekend.
We also picked up these jerky’s from Cracker Barrel. So good.
We were up at the butt crack of dawn to get our flight. We grabbed breakfast at Tim Hortons which we didn’t take pictures of because it was 4:30 am and I wasn’t thinking about my phone. It was just an everything bagel with cream cheese. Did the job.
Caught my sister recording the room for her Disney addict friends…. #milennials.
We got a rental car, went shopping for a few hours, grabbed lunch and then checked in to the Polynesian Deluxe Disney resort. It was lovely.
Chipotle for lunch! I went with the beef barbacoa, cheese, sour cream, brown rice, black beans, corn salsa, regular salsa and lettuce. Yum. I wish we had one where I live.
I didn’t take pictures of what Bekah bought because it was mostly just Disney related items and snacks…. and then almost everything I bought was snacks/food stuff to bring home. I am a self professed snack queen… but I also always stock up on certain things when I’m in the States because it’s just cheaper than it is at home.
And then this got delivered to our door…
My sister had asked her friend who runs a monthly Disney subscription box to pick me up a few things for a sweet lil surprise for me and then her friend just wen ham and bought all of this and wouldn’t take the money for it. So sweet. So basically we had more snacks than anyone would ever know what to do with in 2.5 days.
We hungout at the room since it was pouring rain until we went for our reservations at Sanaa (and Indian/African restaurant on the property). The view of all the safari animals was awesome… especially since I didn’t get to go on the safari we had booked for the Monday…
I ordered the chickpea wat, paneer tikka an basmati rice with a side of my sister’s garlic ginger naan. This was the last meal I enjoyed since it was also the meal that gave me food poisoning. It was my first time every having paneer and it was my last. I will never eat paneer again…
After dinner we went to Disney Springs to the Sephora where I got a free facial and fell in love with the products they used. My skin has never been so soft, clear and smooth. As someone with HELLA sensitive skin, I was really impressed. Stay tuned for a product review.
I woke up early the next morning extremely sick and just spent the entire day in bed throwing up in a bucket and attempting to stay hydrated with ice chips and give my body some sort of energy/calories via soda crackers. After 10 or so hours I could stomach bits a pieces of the Panera cookies from Friday but that was pretty much the extent of it. The manager of the resort had the paramedics come by since it seemed like the throwing up would never end and I felt like I was dying… and he brought a few liters of gingerale to try and settle my stomach. It didn’t work, but I appreciated the effort.
And for reasons I’ll let you figure out yourself, I can never drink this flavor of Gatorade again. Maybe no Gatorade ever. EVER.
Around 11:00pm my sister went on a white carb hunt because my stomach was growling and we thought I should try and eat something other than soda crackers. Since I couldn’t tolerate the chicken soup we had delivered a few hours prior, a bagel seems inoffensive. I got through a little over half of it before I called it quits because…
She also picked me up a Mickey ice cream sandwich. Technically you shouldn’t eat dairy when you have food poisoning… but I was so depleted and all afternoon I had been obsessing over wanting to be able to have: ice cold orange juice, ice cold lemonade and an ice cream sandwich. We realized later I was desperate for ice cold things because I had a fever that hadn’t broken yet. I got through almost half of this before I decided it was no longer worth what could possibly be severe punishment later on. After 15 hours of being so ill, I needed this so bad.
My sister is amazing and I love her. She’s always so good at taking care of anyone who’s ever sick. She took care of my dad for the 2 years he was sick leading up to him passing away, and she was 1000% on point making sure I was looked after all weekend. All the props to my crazy generous, beautiful, patient and loving sister.
Luckily I can still eat ice cream sandwiches…. ha
The next morning consisted of a KIND bar (the mint chocolate flavor. IT’S BOMB. Easily the best flavor they make) and more saltine crackers. I tried to make it to Epcot but we got to the gates and had to turn around and go back to the resort. We had already checked out so the manager set us up with another room free of charge so I could sleep for the rest of the day until we had to go get our flight. We picked this flatbread up + a burger and fries for my sister and I got through 2/3rds of this over the course of 3 hours and lots of sleeping.
We left around 4:30 to pick some stuff up before we headed to the airport. My dinner consisted of…
I figured I could do with something with more nutrition. It didn’t sit so well but it tasted okay. I don’t think they’re worth the hype they get or the price tag. I wouldn’t buy them again because they’re expensive… but I’d eat them if they were free. Or half the price.
Around 11pm I ate a croissant from Panera because I needed something in my stomach but then I decided that it was a bad idea. We had a crazy turbulent flight home which was less than awesome for my nausea. Then we had a 2.5 hour drive home which had me crawling in to bed at 4am this morning.
Buuuut I came home to this cutie that I’m babysitting for a friend for 2 weeks, so it’s not so terrible.
The weekend wasn’t a total bust. I still really enjoyed being away with my sister for a few days. We still had fun somehow and we plan on trying the trip again next February… and actually make it to the parks.
Hope you all had a restful/fun weekend! I’m going back to sleeping and eating saltines ’cause my stomach is not havin’ anything to do with anything other than that and toast.
