We’re doing weekly eats this week instead of a grocery recap for a couple of reasons:
- I’ve been buying groceries really sporadically as we need them.
- When I was in the States, I saw a pretty drastic difference in our prices vs. yours aaaand I feel like the actual dollar amounts I spend are WILDLY different to yours.
But you guys seem to really enjoy seeing our weekly eats so I’m happy to keep givin’ ’em to ya. Just know I spend anywhere from $30-$60 CAD on average per week. From that you can see what we’re eating and go from there. It’s sometimes easier to stick to that budget, sometimes harder, but we don’t waste anything. Leftovers all get eaten. If need be, some things get frozen to thaw at another time (like if I can’t get through a whole batch of baked oatmeal or a whole banana bread/any baked good before it’d go bad).
Okay, on to zee eats!
I’m actually kind of tired of this because it’s basically been breakfast mooost days for a solid 1 1/2 months or so… and I really need change. BUT it was in the fridge and I didn’t know what I wanted so I just ate it. Baked oatmeal + pb (went back for more pb) and a fuji apple.
Brunch! Saturday morning. I was up pretty early and went with a friend to go help out another friend who was catering a church event thing for 100ish people. I shoved an apple + pb in my face and was out the door. We stole a bunch of cheese and some fruit while we were putting platters together but by the time I got home I was pretty hungry so brunch it was!
Tj’s buttermilk pancake mix + blueberries, eggs, bacon, pineapple. I add lots of butter and maple syrup to my pancakes + ketchup for the eggs. Went back for another pancake.
Cinnamon raisin bagel + lots of butter + fuji apple + lots of pb
Banana bread! Plain this time, used an extra banana + added baking powder because I had no eggs left. Reduced the sugar ’cause of the extra banana and it came out excellent. ALSO added extra butter because butter. Delish. Plus apple + pb like usual and then met a girlfriend for lattes at Starbucks. Decaf hazelnut for me.
Banana baked oatmeal with blueberries, apple + pb. I realized I was sick of chocolate in the morning, not banana things. But next week I’m grabbing a can of pumpkin for my pumpkin baked oatmeal.
Every morning starts with coffee with either 18% or 35% cream and usually something sweet because I won’t typically eat for another 1-2 hours after coffee. That’s just what works well for me.
Tuna sammie mixed with hummus + mayo plus veggies and more hummus for dipping.
I guess this was technically brunch again but I had eaten breakfast really early so by 11:30 on Sunday we were eating lunch. A brunchy lunch. Leftover pancakes + butter + maple syrup, bacon, eggs with smoked cheddar cooked in + ketchup + fruit. We <3 weekend brunches.
Toasted tomato sandwich. Seedy bread + butter + white cheddar + sliced tomatoes + cream cheese + trader joe’s everything bagel seasoning. This was super satisfying.
Again plus carrots + salad with my Thai peanut salad dressing.
Met a girlfriend for lunch at that cafe I told you about before (affordable eats for the community). Hummus wrap + bean/grain salad and then met my sisters in law for coffee right after.
Went to a Taste of Portugal night at a cooking class with another girlfriend. Learned I’m not a fan of Portuguese food except the peri peri chicken which was bomb. I’m always looking to expand my food horizons so I was still glad I tried it! Pictures were on Instagram stories so follow if you aren’t already.
Veggies, eggs + Tjs everything bagel seasoning, potatoes + ketchup + bacon. We weren’t really hungry, had a couple drinks, decided we should probably eat something. This was easy and always good.
First homemade burgers of the season! the buns I got were definitely too big… had to rip a bunch of it away because I’d much rather taste my burger. Added cheese.
And again. But this time I cut a middle section of the bun out so I didn’t have to rip it away. The burgers were super good but next time I think instead of 4 patties from 1 lb I’m gonna make 3 and just double it so we get 6. Definitely.
Hot dogs + salad. The weather was so springy and sunny and all I wanted to do was bbq!
And again ’cause I got home late and didn’t feel like cooking.
The plan was my ginger peanut soba noodles… but I had a super long day of work at my other job and was completely exhausted. Sooo we stopped at the grocery store on the way home and I grabbed a giant frozen 4 cheese pizza that I turned in to 6 cheese pizza and put pepperoni on Mark’s half. With lotsa salad and wineeeee.
My other job involves me running around basically all day… and I don’t have anywhere to stop for food and I learned I hate eating full meals on the go. SO I pack a bunch of snacks and then eat whatever sounds good whenever I need something quick in between clients. Cheese, graham crackers with pb, veggies + hummus, KIND bar, etc.
More graham crackers + pb. It’s a favorite that does a pretty good job at keeping me satiated for a couple hours when I’m busy.
Shitty lighting… Liberte 10% plain yogurt, sliced banana, banana bread eaten before bed.
Usual chocolate. Always chocolate. TJ’s sea salt turbinado chocolate almonds. I used to LOVE these… now I prefer their coconut ones or milk chocolate. But these were still excellent.
