Can we be done with winter? Because mentally/emotionally, I am done.
I do not want to wear coats, boots, scarves or hats ANYMORE. I want to not freeze my ass off attempting to bbq something BECAUSE WE JUST WANT IT TO BE BBQ SEASON ALREADY.
There was a fun Brickworks seasonal cider pack at the LCBO (for all my Ontarians) that had pinneapple/apple cider and cherry/apple cider and I was just like YESSS. SUMMER. I mean, it isn’t. But if I close the curtains and drink the cider and eat bbq, I can pretend.
And that brings us to our third grocery recap! I didn’t bbq, and our plans to go out for bbq got squashed and we ended up somewhere else for dinner… But that somewhere else put a cheesy bacon burger slider in Marks’ drink that we shared… and ground up bacon in the patty of the burger I got and topped it with smoked cheddar and more bacon…. so we weren’t complaining. I also had 2 of Mark’s ribs which were the best ribs we’ve ever eaten… ever… and a bunch of his parm fries. And all the carrots. I was well fed.
Buuuuut grocery wise, here’s what we spent: $60
So, we were at the end of our 4 week budget. I only have 3 recaps on here because I missed the week prior and my 4 weeks coincide with my visa cut off/due dates. Sooo, I had $72 to work with this week. A good chunk of the $60 went towards spices that are going to last me months that had needed replacing and a bunch of things I bought extras of because they went on sale. I have $12 left from our budget and I need to replace olive oil, flour and sugar so that’ll cover that whenever I get it.
But here’s what we bought:
Bananas, apples, flat breads, corn tortillas, bacon, ground beef, 3 dozen eggs, coffee cream, milk, hummus, 2lb dry black beans, avocados, broccoli, 5lb bag of potatoes, lettuce, onion, orange juice, jasmine rice, cumin, chili powder, parsley, butter, unpictured kettle chips, tomatoes, cucumber, unpictured potato wedges (frozen)
And we ate…
More baked oatmeal. I knooow, 3 weeks in a row. But I like what I like. With an apple. They were on mega sale so that’s why you keep seeing so many. I still have around 3 kg of oats left from forever ago. I believe I paid $5 for 5 kg. Something like that.
Buttery scrambled eggs with salsa, sauteed potatoes + ketchup, apple. Weekend breakfast dreams right here. Just cook extra potatoes at night then use the leftovers to chop up and saute quickly in some oil + whatever spices you like. Your whole brekky is done in like 10 mins. I ate this on Friday, and then on Saturday and Sunday we had it again but with bacon added. I made it for Mark a couple of times during the week, too.
Mark ate some cereal and juice a couple of mornings per usual, but we’re really hooked on the potatoes + eggs + bacon right now.
Leftover taco rice bowls. Another favorite blog recipe. Forgot to snap a photo.
Hummus/avocado veggie flatbread. This was originally going to have falafel in it. I tried using lentils and didn’t LOVE it so I plan on making falafels properly with chickpeas this coming week and making some sort of grain/veggie/falafel bowl. But I also really love just straight up veggies/hummus/avocado rolled up in carbs. I added extra carrots on the side dipped in leftover dip from the Super Bowl.
Black bean quesadillas. I just used the same flatbreads from above, threw in leftover refried black beans from the huevos, tons of cheddar, roasted some white onion, corn and the last of my bell peppers and grilled it until hot and gooey. Had a giant carrot on the side with hummus added after the photo cause I decided it’d be better with hummus. Also decided it needed sour cream after the photo. I didn’t have any… but I had 5% plain greek yogurt. It did the job. ALSO one day I added some leftover taco beef filling instead of veggies. It was a very good decision.
Regular Sunday pitas. I way overstuffed mine. I couldn’t finish it.
Huevos Rancheros!!! Sorry for the crap lighting. It happens. It’s still very dark at 6:30pm…sigh. We still have leftovers of beans/eggs/corn tortillas so we can have more next week. YAS. Also, I scramble my eggs instead of fry them because I got salmonella once from a fried egg and I can’t eat them anymore. Scrambled for life.
Taco rice bowls one night that we ate with leftover dip and chips from the Super Bowl. This was sooo satisfying.
Potatoes, eggs, bacon, veggies. Per the breakfast above, replacing fruit with broccoli. One night we got home really late and needed a fast dinner so this was perfect. On Sunday I was too tired to make anything and this was easy and we aren’t tiring of it.
Cheeseburger Frittata w/ veggies & potato wedges. Apparently this was the week of eggs and potatoes. BUUUTT potatoes and eggs were on sale and we love ’em. So I used up all the bacon we had leftover, the half of my burger patty that was leftover from dinner and cooked it up with some onion, eggs, cream and cheddah. Topped with green onions. And unpictured wine, per usual.
I eat broccoli/cauliflower with almost everything. Sometimes I want salad as a side… and sometimes we don’t eat veggies at all with dinner, but I’d say 80% of the time I eat broccoli/cauli on the side. They’re my favorite vegetables and have been since I was a kid. I never get sick of them. Sometimes I do sauteed sprouts or green beans if I have them on hand. You do you.
We had date night out on Saturday per the photos above. It’s our new favorite place. The Laughing Demon for anyone in Kitchener/Waterloo/Cambridge. You need to go.
The usual chocolate, ice cream, cookies, chips, popcorn, carrots + pb, cheese + crackers, veg + hummus.
